International Competition Musica Antiqua

Since 1964 the Flanders Festival Bruges organizes every year the famous International Competition Musica Antiqua. They are open to young, highly qualified performers from all over the world, who specialize in the historically informed performance practice.

The purpose is not to stress the element of competition but rather to stimulate the highest level of execution. We are confronting young performers with their peers, with their masters and with the public.

Starting in 2008, MAfestival offers the winner(s) besides a cheque, a concert as part of the next MAfestival and a number of concerts in close collaboration with important national and international organisations in Brussels, Antwerp and Bonn. Since 2013 one of the candidates also gets the chance to record a cd with the renowned alpha label.

The Internationale Competitions Musica Antiqua are organised according to a fixed cycle in which the focus shifts between different instruments:

2018: focus harpsichord

2019: focus pianoforte

2020: focus melody instruments

2021: focus harpsichord
