What is MA Academy?
The MA Academy off ers young musicians the opportunity to gain concert experience under the direction of a specialist. Stephan MacLeod, leading singer and conductor of Gli Angeli Genève, will this year be taking the musicians of the renowned Juilliard School from New York with him on a fascinating trip through the German early baroque repertoire for double bass and strings. This music is an absolute first for the young Americans.
Eight talented young musicians from the renowned Julliard School in New York are introduced to the incredibly rich and
fertile musical past of 17th century North Germany. Under the direction of conductor Stephan MacLeod, they explore
the repertoire of Schütz, Wechmann, J. C. Bach and Erlebach, among others. The music of each one of these
composers sought to reinforce the underlying text. This, in combination with the formal freedom enjoyed by composers
in that period, allows for an extraordinary richness and variety of colours.
Music by Heinrich Schütz (1585−1672), Matthias Weckmann (1616−1674), Johann Christian Bach (1735−1782) and Philipp Heinrich Erlebach (1657−1714)
