Ensemble Théodora
Buxtehude, Jacquet de la Guerre & Böhm

French Ensemble Théodora invite us to relive Holy Week, as it was celebrated in the early 18th century. In the intimate setting of the Chamber Music Hall, gambist, harpsichordist, violinist and soprano perform a programme that brings together German sacred cantatas and French Leçons de Ténèbres. The trio sonatas of German organist-composer Dietrich Buxtehude and French harpsichordist-composer Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre are juxtaposed. In Georg Böhm’s keyboard variations on ‘Wer nur den lieben Gott läßt walten’, French and German aesthetics are even brought together in a single work.
Music by Dietrich Buxtehude (1637−1707), Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (1665−1729), Georg Böhm (1661−1733) etc.
