Kalaido was founded in the winter of 2018 within the early music department of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. There, a group of singers and continuo players got together to play and perform Italian 17th century baroque music from around Rome. After having a couple of successful performances in the Early Music Open Stage (or EMOS) in the conservatory, they set their mind to entering the fringe of Utrecht and Bruges to introduce this music to a bigger audience.
The program, existing of repertoire only featuring high voices, is quite unique in this sense and is barely performed. It evolved from pieces that were written for the poor in Rome, following the tradition of the oratorio started by San Filippo Neri.
To bring this music, they brought together an ensemble cast featuring a wide arrange of nationalities.
