Portraits of a lady

Klavierparels van Jacquet de la Guerre en Couperin

04.08

Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre was only five when she was discovered at the court of Louis XIV. She later became a freelance harpsichordist and composer. Carole Cerasi juxtaposes Jacquet’s ingenious suites with character pieces by contemporary François Couperin. ‘Les Vestales’ and ‘Les Nonètes’: they are but two classes of ladies Couperin immortalised in charming vignettes.
