A Johann Sebastian Bach work that doesn’t have a Prélude? In that case, just make up your own! Cellist Víctor García, win­ner of the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition 2024, has been adding impro­vised move­ments to his Bach recitals for years. He does this – as was also cus­tom­ary in Bach’s day – by impro­vis­ing rep­e­ti­tions, pre­ludes and inter­ludes in Bach’s style. In this way, he imparts his own musi­cal reflec­tion on his works. In this con­cert, García draws inspi­ra­tion from the Doubles Bach com­posed for the Partita for Violin and com­bines move­ments from var­i­ous cel­lo suites with his own impro­vised Doubles.
