FRINGE - Les Salonnières

06.08

The young musicians of Les Salonnières met in Berlin at the University of the Arts in 2017 where they immediately connected through a fascination with the salon culture of the 18th and early 19th centuries. The communication of philosophical ideas through music, art, and poetry inspired them to create their own salon in Berlin. Liane Sadler, Sophie Longmuir, and Mirjam Münzel perform on historical instruments, presenting concerts which combine 18th and 19th century music with readings of literature from the period, and are often held in intimate settings surrounded by
artworks. They strive for open and honest conversation, where the listeners and performers alike can experience a deeper understanding of the ideas presented by the music and literature. They also endeavour to celebrate the role of women in the salons of the 18th and early 19th centuries, which, in a time when intellectual spheres were traditionally dominated by men, allowed women greater freedom to express themselves both intellectually and creatively, and
be at the forefront of cultural development.
