Apothéose
Lully and Corelli in Elysium
At a time when France tended to look down on Italian taste as rather too flamboyant, François Couperin wrote L’Apothéose de Lully, in which the great French baroque composer Lully reconciles with the Italian Corelli in the afterlife. Ludus Instrumentalis create an ode to this reunion and combine Couperin’s apotheosis with music by Leclair and Mascitti.
