Are they madri­gals, motets or some­thing entire­ly new? The reli­gious works in Thomaskantor Johann Hermann Schein’s Israelsbrünnlein have fas­ci­nat­ed for cen­turies. These pow­er­ful texts are inter­wo­ven with the German vocal music of Heinrich Schütz and Samuel Scheidt. The com­posers com­bine the inno­v­a­tive fea­tures of the Italian madri­gal with Renaissance polypho­ny. For the Swiss ensem­ble Voces Suaves, German-speak­ing but spe­cialised in Italian madri­gals, this unique reper­toire is ideal.
