In the ear­ly German baroque era, com­posers like Heinrich Scheidemann, Andreas Hammerschmidt and Nikolaus Bruhns wrote motets and can­tatas in which an indi­vid­ual turns to God. The aus­pi­cious ensem­ble Le Concert Étranger con­fronts this puri­fy­ing reper­toire with radi­ant organ chorales from the same period.
