François Couperin was court organist and chamber composer to Louis XIV. His Concerts royaux were regularly performed in the rooms of the old Sun King. From the latter’s last years dates Couperin’s spiritual masterpiece, the Leçons de ténèbres. The subtle interplay of Les Timbres is tailor – made for Couperin.
