With his Via Crucis (18789), Franz Liszt wrote one of the most poignant versions of the Passion. In this serene work, he condenses the complete history of music, from Gregorian hymns and Lutheran chorales to a sound world which was well ahead of his own time. The Estonian choir Vox Clamantis – pet ensemble of Arvo Pärt – interacts with pianist Jean-Claude Pennetier.
